Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Muscular Pain is perhaps the most popular pregnancy treatment I provide in my clinic and certainly one of the most effective. Pain, both muscular and skeletal (yes your bones can hurt during pregnancy) is very common, varying from mild discomfort to severe pain that results in a lack of sleep and may require complete bed rest or even hospitalization.

This is compounded as many anti inflammatory medications are contra-indicated during pregnancy and many women are simply told that this discomfort is part and parcel of pregnancy and something they should grin and bear.

I disagree. No woman should suffer or be in needles muscular pain during pregnancy and they don’t have to be with Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Muscular Pain treatments providing a comprehensive solution to the issue.

Conditions such as backache, sciatica, rib, pelvic and pubic symphysis pain are very common during pregnancy. Not only is this caused by the increase in progesterone and other hormones during pregnancy resulting in a softening and weakening of the supportive muscle tissue, but also as a result of the shift in weight, balance and the displacement of the bodies organs.

The weight of the growing baby needs to be compensated for by the expectant mothers muscles and joints, which will most likely be unaccustomed to the addition of such weight. This is made worse as the extra weight is not evenly distributed over the body, but directly in the abdomen. This causes a disruption in the centre of gravity and the pelvis, back, neck and shoulders are all taken out of alignment, leading to pain and discomfort. That’s not to mention the uterus and pushing upwards and pressing on the ribs as the baby grows. All in all there is a huge opportunity for discomfort. Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Muscular Pain can balance the body and relieve the pain.

From a Traditional Chinese Medical standpoint, physical pain such as that occurring in pregnancy is seen as a disruption of the natural flow of Qi (Energy) and Blood necessary to nourish the muscles. This can occur along the meridian – a line of energy associated with a particular organ and most likely corresponds to a particular nerve which is under pressure. For instance the Sciatic nerve which when inflamed or pressurized causes pain along the lower back and down the legs, overlays quite neatly with the Bladder Meridian.

In other cases Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Muscular Pain would focus on an organ itself – for instance there may be a weakness of the Kidneys, which could present as low back pain. Often times the two aspects are mixed in. For instance if the Kidney’s are weak and sore, one may have a sore back preventing proper movement, which in turn causes pressure of the Sciatic nerve, hence pain running down the legs. In TCM this would also be a great example of the interrelation of the Kidney and Bladder organs which are traditional paired together.

Luckily for expectant mothers Traditional Chinese medicine and Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Muscular Pain treatments have a long history in relieving and resolving such discomforts by gentle restoring the proper flow of Qi and Blood to the affected areas and returning you to state of balance and harmony, resulting in an ease of muscular pain relatively quickly and without the need for medication.

This complaint is one of the most common I see in my clinic, and I'm glad to say I've helped many women with Back Pain, Sciatica, Rib Pain and more through their pregnancies. Take a look at what Ciara had to say...

Brining You Back to Health:

I most enjoyed the relaxed manner and atmosphere, it’s very personalized and tailored session and Paul’s approach is excellent (and friendly).

My overall experience with Paul was extremely positive and effective. I always feel ‘renewed’ or re-energized after a session!

I have recommended Paul to both family and work!

These treatments have improved my life, I’m pain free and most importantly treatment eased my pregnancy.

I initially started acupuncture to relieve my back pain but continued treatment throughout my pregnancy and after for a list of ailments including endometriosis, and irritable bowel.

Having exhausted nearly all other options available to me, I decided to try acupuncture and ease my constant back pain. I can say without hesitation that it was a success; I no longer carry a mini ‘chemist’ in my handbag! Not only did Paul manage to cure my back and make me pain free for the first time in years, he also alleviated my endometriosis and the symptoms that affected me. So much so that I went on to have a very healthy and seamless pregnancy.

I continued with my course of acupuncture during my pregnancy and this ensured that my energy levels were good, my swelling reduced and I remained relaxed. Even my indigestion / heartburn, a common side effect, was manageable!

All in all, I would highly recommend acupuncture, especially with Paul J.O’Brien to anyone interested in using an alternative form of medicine. I definitely found it more effective!
